April Tea Report: 2024 China Exports & US Imports

Data from the Tea Industry Committee of China Association for the Promotion of International Agricultural Cooperation, and the US Census Bureau (GATS) was recently published regarding China exports and US imports of tea for April 2024.

 

CHINA EXPORTS

HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE

• April total export volume INCREASED 1.2% year on year
• GREEN tea accounted for 85.4% of total export volume
• Average prices DECREASED 17.4% over the previous April to $3.60/kg
• Exports of GREEN tea volume INCREASED 5.6% over April 2023
• Exports of BLACK tea volume INCREASED 21.3% over the same time last year

US IMPORTS

 

HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE

• Average price for GLOBAL imports was $3.91/kg, DOWN 12.5% over the previous April
• YTD total China imports are DOWN 1.5% over 2023
• Average price for CHINA imports was $4.21/kg, DOWN 3.6% over April 2023
• 26.8% of all GREEN tea import (volume) was from China, but only 9.5% of VALUE
• 30.4% of the month’s US ORGANIC tea import volume was from China
