Data from China Customs was recently published regarding China exports for August 2025. GATS data on US imports of tea was not available at time of publication due to the federal government shutdown.

HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE
August total export volume DECREASED 10.0% year on year
YTD totals are UP 4.0% over last year
Exports of YTD GREEN tea volume INCREASED 15.5% over YTD 2024
Average prices INCREASED 9.3% over the previous August to $3.99/kg
Considering that China does not classify its tea exports along the same coding system as the US does its imports, data on volumes and values on China tea exports to the US vs US tea imports from China will differ. China’s export info indicates a 26.8% decrease in tea exports to the US vs August of 2024. However, total YTD volumes are only down 2.3% over the previous period.
