February Tea Report: 2024 China Exports & US Imports

Data from the China Chamber of Commerce, the Tea Industry Committee of China Association for the Promotion of International Agricultural Cooperation, and the US Census Bureau (GATS) was recently published regarding China exports and US imports of tea for February 2024.

 

CHINA EXPORTS

HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE

• Jan-Feb total export volume INCREASED 10.9% year on year
• GREEN tea accounted for 86.4% of total export volume
• Average prices DECREASED 20.7% over the previous Jan-Feb to $3.90/kg
• Exports of GREEN tea volume INCREASED 14.4% over Jan-Feb 2023
• Exports of BLACK tea volume DECREASED 21.2% over the same time last year

US IMPORTS

HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE

• Average price for GLOBAL imports was $5.19/kg, UP 23.9% over the previous February
• YTD total China imports are DOWN 9.4% over 2023
• Average price for CHINA imports was $6.23/kg, UP 37.6% over February 2023
• 31.1% of all GREEN tea import (volume) was from China, but only 17.9% of VALUE
• 16.9% of the month’s US ORGANIC tea import volume was from China
