March Tea Report: 2024 China Exports & US Imports

Data from the Tea Industry Committee of China Association for the Promotion of International Agricultural Cooperation, and the US Census Bureau (GATS) was recently published regarding China exports and US imports of tea for March 2024.

 

CHINA EXPORTS

HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE

• March total export volume DECREASED 13.9% year on year
• GREEN tea accounted for 87.3% of total export volume
• Average prices DECREASED 28.4% over the previous March to $3.58/kg
• Exports of GREEN tea volume DECREASED 13.4% over March 2023
• Exports of BLACK tea volume DECREASED 15.1% over the same time last year

US IMPORTS

 

HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE

• Average price for GLOBAL imports was $4.21/kg, DOWN 17.6% over the previous March
• YTD total China imports are DOWN 4.7% over 2023
• Average price for CHINA imports was $5.51/kg, UP 26.1% over March 2023
• 25.1% of all GREEN tea import (volume) was from China, but only 16.4% of VALUE
• 11.2% of the month’s US ORGANIC tea import volume was from China
