May Tea Report: 2024 China Exports & US Imports

Data from the Tea Industry Committee of China Association for the Promotion of International Agricultural Cooperation, and the US Census Bureau (GATS) was recently published regarding China exports and US imports of tea for May 2024.

 

CHINA EXPORTS

HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE

• May total export volume DECREASED 11.8% year on year
• GREEN tea accounted for 85.6% of total export volume
• Average prices DECREASED 21.2% over the previous May to $3.94/kg
• Exports of GREEN tea volume DECREASED 7.9% over May 2023
• Exports of BLACK tea volume DECREASED 31.3% over the same time last year

US IMPORTS

 

HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE

• Average price for GLOBAL imports was $3.81/kg, DOWN 8.9% over the previous May
• YTD total China imports are DOWN 1.5% over 2023
• Average price for CHINA imports was $3.41/kg, DOWN 21.3% over May 2023
• 35.6% of all GREEN tea import (volume) was from China, but only 15.3% of VALUE
• 30.7% of the month’s US ORGANIC tea import volume was from China
