Instead of smoked malts- smoked black tea. Better yet, why not both with Elder Pine’sEmpyreumatic!
INGREDIENTS
Courtesy: Elder Pine
The elements of this beer include:
HELLES RAUCHBIER: the traditional smoked malts provide a mild smokiness that rauchbiers (smoked beers) are known for.
LAPSANG SOUCHONG: This historic black tea from China has been smoked over pine embers. When combined with the smoked malts, the smokiness gets bumped up to harmonize with the grain character in the beer.
WORTH NOTING
Reviews describe the beer as “crisp,” and smoky in a pleasant way. One comment said it “was like drinking a camp fire.” Maybe not everyone’s preferred drink, but the right dose of lapsang souchong also pairs well with fruits like raspberry and peach, sweet notes like maple syrup and vanilla, and nutty (e.g. pecan) combinations.
