Data from the China Tea Marketing Association and the US Census Bureau (GATS) was recently published regarding China exports and US imports of tea for April 2023.
CHINA EXPORTS
HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE
April total export volume INCREASED 4.3% year on year
However- YTD total export volume is DOWN 4.2% over 2022
GREEN tea accounted for 81.8% of total export volume
Average prices DECREASED 16.6% over the previous April to $4.36/kg
Exports of GREEN tea volume INCREASED 2.4% over April 2022
Exports of BLACK tea volume DECREASED 22.7% over the same time last year
US IMPORTS
HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE
Average price for GLOBAL imports was $5.11/kg, UP 3.0% over the previous April
Average price for CHINA imports was $5.01/kg, UP 15.2% over April 2022
38.3% of all GREEN tea import (volume) was from China, but only 19.5% of VALUE
53.7% of the month’s US ORGANIC tea import volume was from China
