Data from the Zhongnong Tea Promotion Industry Branch and the US Census Bureau (GATS) was recently published regarding China exports and US imports of tea for July 2023.
CHINA EXPORTS
HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE
- July total export volume DECREASED 8.7% year on year
- YTD total export volume is DOWN 4% over 2022
- GREEN tea accounted for 82.5% of total export volume
- Average prices DECREASED 10.7% over the previous July to $5.00/kg
- Exports of GREEN tea volume DECREASED 5.1% over July 2022
- Exports of BLACK tea volume DECREASED 1.7% over the same time last year
US IMPORTS
HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE
- Average price for GLOBAL imports was $4.55/kg, UP 29.3% over the previous July
- YTD total China imports are DOWN 39.9% over 2022
- Average price for CHINA imports was $6.00/kg, UP 88.8% over July 2022
- 27.9% of all GREEN tea import (volume) was from China, but only 14.7% of VALUE
- 49.4% of the month’s US ORGANIC tea import volume was from China
